Senators Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto issued statements after voting in favor of a deal to reopen the government. This followed a rare Sunday session in the Senate, where moderate Democrats agreed to move forward without a guaranteed extension of health care subsidies.
Many Democrats, including Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto, have been actively opposing rising health care costs during the shutdown. Senator Jacky Rosen criticized President Trump and Republicans for using their power to cause hardship for working people.
Senator Jacky Rosen: "President Trump and Republicans are weaponizing their power to bring suffering to working people."
She also reaffirmed her commitment to fight for the extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits.
Following Rosen's statement, Senator Cortez Masto acknowledged the difficulties people face during the government shutdown.
Senator Cortez Masto: "I know the pain people are feeling during the government shutdown."
She added that once the government reopens, her priority will be to push for a bipartisan budget for 2026 that restores funding cuts made by President Trump.
Both Senators emphasize their commitment to healthcare and budget solutions to alleviate the impact of the shutdown on Nevadans.
