Singer HyunA caused concern among fans after collapsing on stage during a recent appearance, prompting many to recall her earlier disclosure about suffering from vasovagal syncope — a condition that can trigger sudden fainting due to a drop in heart rate and blood pressure.
In 2019, HyunA publicly shared details about her health on social media for the first time, explaining how her efforts to meet public expectations made her overlook her own physical and mental condition.
“I wanted to be someone chosen by everyone, so I kept running forward without realizing I was sick. I told myself I was fine, but when I finally went to the hospital in 2016, I learned that my heart was actually hurting.”
During that same period, the artist revealed she had been diagnosed with depression and panic disorder, acknowledging that the news was difficult at first.
“At first, I couldn’t believe it, but now I’m receiving regular treatment and trying not to think of it in a negative way.”
HyunA described how she realized she suffered from vasovagal syncope after experiencing sudden dizziness and loss of consciousness.
“My vision suddenly went blurry, and then I just collapsed. After tests, I was told it was vasovagal syncope.”
Experts note that vasovagal syncope, also known as neurocardiogenic syncope, is among the most common medical reasons for fainting episodes.
HyunA’s onstage collapse reignited public attention on her recurring health challenges, reminding fans of her openness about mental health and vasovagal syncope.
