Chargers torment Aaron Rodgers in win over Steelers on Keenan Allen’s record night

Chargers Defeat Steelers as Keenan Allen Sets Franchise Record

The Los Angeles Chargers secured a convincing 25–10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. Quarterback Justin Herbert led the offense while the defense dominated, sacking veteran Aaron Rodgers three times, including once for a safety.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen reached a historic milestone, recording his 956th career reception to surpass Hall of Fame tight end Antonio Gates’ franchise record. The record-setting catch came late in the fourth quarter on a short pass from Herbert for a 7-yard gain.

“I was on the sideline and (Harbaugh) said, ‘We’re trying to get it to you,’” Allen recalled. “I said, ‘Hey, just run the speed sweep.’ It’s the easiest catch I get. They actually called me a genius. Like, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’”

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh approved Allen’s request for a quick play to secure the record, contacting offensive coordinator Greg Roman through the headset to confirm the call. Roman agreed, setting up the memorable moment in front of 72,174 fans and former Chargers star Antonio Gates.

“He wanted to do it in front of the home crowd and it was a great idea,” Harbaugh said. “We went with it and it was a great run, too. That was just tremendous.”
