Wicked: For Good premieres in theaters Friday, November 21. Following the success of the first movie released in November 2024, which became a cultural phenomenon, fans eagerly await the sequel.
The original film, based on the beloved Broadway musical, explores the backstory of Glinda (Ariana Grande), the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West. Contrary to the well-known tale, they were actually friends and college roommates before a series of events turned them into adversaries.
By the end of the first film, the two witches reach the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum), hoping he can help halt the mysterious loss of voices among Oz's animals. However, the Wizard is revealed to be behind this turmoil and wants Elphaba to assist in his wider plans for Oz.
"Elphaba refuses and flees Oz, determined to save the animals on her own."
Meanwhile, Glinda remains in Oz, seemingly gaining the Wizard's favor, setting the stage for the events that follow in the sequel.
The upcoming film promises a fresh take on the story's conclusion. Although Broadway fans may be familiar with the general plot, Wicked: For Good will present its unique interpretation, leaving much still to be discovered.
"What happens next will be revealed in the sequel, Wicked: For Good, which hits theaters Friday, November 21."
