Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the critical state of China-UK relations, stating they face a crucial point where they must either make progress or decline amid global instability. He described the bilateral ties as being at a decisive moment requiring clear direction.
This assessment was shared during a phone call between Wang Yi and the newly appointed UK Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, where they deliberated on the future path of Sino-British relations.
According to China's state-run Xinhua news agency, Wang urged that "both sides should enhance strategic communication and promote the sustainable development of bilateral relations along a healthy, mutually beneficial, and stable track."
Wang framed China and the UK as key actors with significant international duties in preserving global peace and stability. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations and respect for national sovereignty. While acknowledging inevitable disagreements between the two countries, Wang expressed confidence that these differences can be managed through deeper mutual understanding.
Wang Yi emphasizes that China and the UK must strengthen dialogue and cooperation to ensure their relationship contributes positively to global stability despite existing challenges.
