Wendy's announced plans to shut down around 300 stores across the United States in the coming months.
Wendy's is among the top ten fast-food chains in New Jersey, where there are 145 Wendy's restaurants, including many in South Jersey. It is unclear which specific stores will close, and no official list has been released.
The closures are in addition to the 150 stores scheduled to close by the end of 2024. According to finance site Investing.com, the total number of closures could exceed 350 nationally.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," said Interim Wendy's CEO Ken Cook during the Nov. 7 quarterly earnings call. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
Cook confirmed the store closures would begin before the end of the year but did not specify which locations would be affected.
