Photos of the Ka-Bar knife sheath have been disclosed for the first time among more than 2,300 pages of evidence released by Idaho State Police. This sheath was a crucial item that linked Bryan Kohberger to the murder of four University of Idaho students.
Kohberger left behind a brown leather Ka-Bar knife sheath when he fled the scene shortly after the November 13, 2022, stabbing of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.
Photos reveal the sheath as a brown leather cover bearing a USMC military seal and measuring less than 15 inches long.
Forensic genetic genealogy matched DNA found on the sheath at 1122 King Road, Moscow, Idaho, to Kohberger, a 30-year-old criminology PhD student. This connection was pivotal in identifying him as the murderer.
The actual knife used in the crime has never been recovered.
Author's summary: The disclosed photos of the knife sheath, linked by DNA to Kohberger, provided crucial evidence in solving the tragic murders of four university students.
