Lane Hutson Signs Eight-Year Contract with Montreal Canadiens

Lane Hutson has signed an eight-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens, worth $8.85 million per season, with the majority of the contract in bonuses.

The contract, which will take effect next summer, includes a small no-trade clause. According to reports, General Manager Kent Hughes worked hard to convince Hutson to sign, initially offering a deferred-money contract, which Hutson declined.

The key factor in the signing was the Canadiens' agreement to give Hutson the vast majority of the contract, $55M out of $70M, in bonuses.
