Residents of Southside Chattanooga are calling for action following repeated disturbances caused by bars in their neighborhood. The Chattanooga Beer Board has expressed interest in addressing these concerns.
At a recent meeting, local residents, business owners, and faith leaders highlighted ongoing problems related to three bars: Shady's Corner, Cabana’s Night Club, and Let’s Paint. Issues reported include loud music late at night, loitering, and threats directed at neighbors.
Faisal Saeed, chaplain with the Chattanooga Police Department, emphasized that the problems extend beyond typical business disturbances. Notably, Shady’s Corner is situated adjacent to the Islamic Center, raising heightened concerns.
"Last month, a staff member and two customers were arrested after a Chattanooga Police undercover operation. One kitchen manager was accused of selling cocaine to undercover officers, stemming from complaints including allegations of drink tampering, sexual assaults, and drug sales."
Shady's Corner later addressed safety concerns publicly on its Facebook page.
Among the three bars, only the owner of Let’s Paint spoke at the meeting. Nicole Davis explained her efforts to comply with regulations and noted that she expanded the business from a "paint and sip" model due to insufficient revenue.
