In his new memoir We Did OK, Kid, Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins, 87, expresses regret over a 2018 interview where he said he did not care about his estranged daughter Abigail's life. Abigail, now 57, is his daughter from his first marriage.
Hopkins admits he spoke "coldly" about Abigail in the press and acknowledges the estrangement has been misrepresented by tabloids. He writes,
"It is true that I have spoken about her in the press coldly, saying in one regrettable interview that after 20 years of not hearing from her, I no longer knew where she was or if she’d ever married or had children, and that at that point I did not care."
The actor clarifies that his coldness reflected "the coldness of my grandfather" and his default hardness, adding that it is no excuse.
Hopkins expresses hope for reconciliation with Abigail, stating:
"I hope Abigail knows that my door is always open to her. I want her to be well and happy."
