In her memoir "The Last Hart Beating," professional wrestler Natalya reveals that she once faced the threat of dismissal under the former WWE leadership. The issue stemmed from her husband, former WWE superstar Tyson Kidd, who sustained a severe spinal cord injury in 2015 after receiving Samoa Joe’s Muscle Buster move. Kidd was forced to retire officially from in-ring competition in 2017, leaving the couple in a difficult situation.
“Back home, TJ was still recovering from his surgery. Even though it had been nine months since he was injured, he still hadn’t heard anything from WWE or Vince about any kind of restitution for his injury,”
According to Natalya, Vince McMahon and the WWE organization refrained from offering any apology or acknowledgment, fearing it could be interpreted as an admission of responsibility. She described how Kidd was unable to move his head during his recovery, yet WWE had not reached out to him once.
“Their account of what happened was completely different than TJ’s,”
Natalya also disclosed that WWE management instructed her to remain silent about the incident while at work.
“They denied everything and finished by saying that if I talked about TJ’s injury at work or disparaged the company, they would trigger a clause in my contract and let me go,”
She recalled how she had to act as if she had not received a legal letter from WWE disputing her husband’s claims and warning her against speaking publicly. The situation forced her to monitor every conversation at work to avoid any mention of the topic. Today, Tyson Kidd continues to contribute to WWE as a backstage producer.
Natalya shared how WWE once silenced her over her husband Tyson Kidd’s devastating injury, revealing a tense power dynamic behind the scenes of professional wrestling.
