Alberta's Rocky View County Issues Fire Advisory as Dry Conditions Continue
Although Alberta's official fire season ends this Friday, unusually dry weather has led to new fire advisories across the province's southern regions. Rocky View County, in particular, has declared advisories for both its eastern and western areas due to dry and windy conditions that pose a moderate fire risk, according to the county’s website.

Deputy Fire Chief Bill Messner noted that issuing advisories late in the season is not uncommon given the province’s unpredictable weather patterns.
"This is definitely a period of the season where honestly the weather can change very rapidly," said Messner.
He added that the recent spell of dryness has already triggered a noticeable increase in grass fires, with up to three occurring in a single day. Some of these fires may have been caused by human activity, such as discarded cigarettes.
"Please use proper receptacles. Please don't flick them out of the window. That definitely can cause a lot of issues that way," Messner cautioned.
Additional Measures
Along with the advisory, the county has implemented a fire ban, suspending all existing permits for open burns and fireworks. However, exceptions are made for barbecues, camp stoves, and indoor fireplaces.
Messner indicated that the advisory could remain in effect for at least another week as current weather patterns show little sign of improvement.
