Cochrane Could Host 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary
Cochrane may become the new location for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary triathlon if the town council approves the proposal. Platinum Racing Events, the event organizers, suggested relocating the triathlon to Cochrane because Harmony Park is unavailable due to construction.
Event Details and Schedule
The two-day triathlon is planned for July 25–26, 2026, with setup starting on July 24. Now in its 17th year, the race typically draws about 1,100 athletes from as many as 26 countries, alongside over 500 spectators and 300 volunteers.
Participants and Course
- Approximately 40% of athletes are expected to travel more than 300 kilometres to compete.
- Last year’s event featured competitors from 16 countries.
- If approved, the course will include a 1.9 km swim at Ghost Lake, a 90 km cycle through rural roads north of Cochrane, and a 21.1 km run along the town’s pathways and river corridor.
Additional Activities and Support
The event will offer a relay version for two or three participants. On July 24–25, a Kids Fun Run, vendor booths, and athlete package pickups are planned. The main race will take place on July 26.
