Three men have been charged with murder following the death of Kyle Bevan at HMP Wakefield.
Kyle Bevan died on Wednesday, 5 November, at HMP Wakefield. The accused, Mark Fellows (45), Lee Newell (56), and David Taylor (63), appeared separately via video link at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Friday.
All three defendants wore grey tracksuits. Fellows and Newell confirmed their names, dates of birth, and understanding of the proceedings, while Taylor stated:
“Absolutely not. I’m innocent.”
Each hearing lasted just over a minute. District Judge Charlotte Holland remanded them in custody until their next appearance at Leeds Crown Court on Monday for the pre-trial preparation hearing.
Bevan was sentenced in April 2023 to a minimum of 28 years in prison for the murder of his partner's two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. He caused catastrophic head injuries to the toddler during a six-hour attack in 2020.
