Fog turns to snowfall in Calgary

Fog Turns to Snowfall in Calgary

On Friday morning, Calgary experienced a shift from foggy conditions to snowfall, though the snow is not expected to last. Visibility was initially poor due to fog, prompting an advisory from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

Weather Development

Snow began falling downtown around 8:30 a.m., moving southward as flakes spread from the north. ECCC also warned of rain or snow with a chance of freezing rain during the morning.

Meteorologist Update

"Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away," explained Kevin Stanfield, meteorologist at 660 NewsRadio.

He added, "Our high today hits 3°C, so any area that caught a new coat will likely see that melt off too."

Safety Advice

Drivers are urged to exercise caution on the roads due to the changing weather conditions.
