Beloved Nine Star Livinia Nixon Quits Weather Role After Two Decades

Channel Nine is facing change as popular weathergirl Livinia Nixon announces her unexpected departure from presenting the weather on 9News Melbourne after 20 years. Livinia has chosen to step back to prioritize her family.

Focus on Family

After two decades delivering weather forecasts to Australian viewers, Livinia Nixon shared her decision to step away from this role to better support her family, especially her two sons, Henry and Ted, who will soon be in high school.

"After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I’ve decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It’s been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers’ homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family."

She added that presenting the weather has been a defining part of her career but emphasized this was the right choice for her personally. When she spoke to her sons about the decision, they expressed excitement about spending more time together.

"Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”

Continued Role at Nine

Livinia first joined Nine in 1997, gaining popularity through her work on Hey Hey It’s Saturday alongside Daryl Somers. Although leaving the weather desk, she will remain with the network, continuing to present on popular travel shows.

"I’m thrilled to be staying with Nine and will be continuing my roles on Getaway and Postcards."

Summary

Livinia Nixon steps back from her long-standing 9News weather role to focus on family, while maintaining her presence on Nine's travel programs.
