Channel 9’s chief footy reporter, Tom Morris, has sensationally moved to rival network Channel 7 in a significant career shift. The 34-year-old announced on Friday morning that he accepted a lucrative offer from Channel 7, according to Code Sports.
The successful recruitment was credited to Chris Jones, Head of Sport at Seven, and SEN boss Craig Hutchison. Morris will join a strong lineup of footy experts already established at Channel 7.
Though Morris is joining the team, he is not expected to take a leading on-air role, as Mitch Cleary will continue to serve as Channel 7’s chief footy reporter. Together with Cleary and Xander McGuire, another recent recruit from Channel 9, they form a powerful reporting trio.
This move adds to a series of major gains for Channel 7, which previously convinced Kane Cornes to leave Channel 9 before the 2024 AFL season.
"Morris is understood to have been convinced to jump ship due to Channel 7 having the broadcast rights to both the footy and cricket."
Tom Morris had been with Channel 9 since January 2024.
