Former India batter Robin Uthappa shared insights on Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling performance, suggesting the pacer tends to lose rhythm when overly eager for wickets. Uthappa attributed Bumrah’s unusual off day in the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to this very factor.
Speaking on Star Sports, Uthappa noted that Bumrah’s desperation to make an impact led to a loss of discipline, which was evident during India’s modest total defense of 125 runs.
“When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first three or four overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward.”
India were all out for 125, and Australia chased the target comfortably in under 14 overs, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. Although Bumrah took two wickets and gave away 26 runs in his four overs, Uthappa felt that the ace pacer was not his composed usual self.
Uthappa further analyzed Bumrah’s performance, suggesting his occasional waywardness results from eagerness to strike early rather than consistent control.
Robin Uthappa believes Jasprit Bumrah’s rare off day was caused by his impatience for wickets, leading to a loss of rhythm during India’s defense of a low total against Australia.
