Jennifer Lawrence recently shared how her challenging postpartum experience after the birth of her second child influenced her approach to her latest film, Die My Love. The actress, 35, spoke exclusively with PEOPLE at the film's New York City premiere.
In the movie, Lawrence portrays a new mother struggling with the pressures of motherhood. She revealed that her difficult postpartum anxiety after her second baby lent depth to her role.
“I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby],” Lawrence explained. “I think that just added another layer.”
She added, “I mean, I don't think that you have to have kids to play a parent by any means, but having that information about, you know, what a tiny person needs, and is looking for. Just having that information was helpful.”
The Oscar-winning actress shares her son Cy, 3, and welcomed a second son earlier this year with her husband, Cooke Maroney. She had earlier spoken about postpartum anxiety in an interview with The New Yorker.
“I just thought every time he was sleeping he was dead,” she said about her baby.
Her candidness sheds light on the often unspoken struggles many new mothers face.
Jennifer Lawrence's honest reflections on postpartum anxiety deepen her portrayal of motherhood in Die My Love, enriching both her performance and public understanding.
