Mel Tracina is preparing to leave her Melbourne life behind to pursue her dream of hosting the highly anticipated return of Big Brother Australia on the Gold Coast. The 36-year-old Nova presenter and cultural correspondent for The Cheap Seats shares her excitement about reviving a show that shaped a generation of Aussie reality TV fans.
“I’m feeling as excited as every other OG fan,” Mel laughs. “There’s that moment where I have to remind myself that I don’t get to sit at home and watch it – I’m working!”
She fondly remembers the original series' magic, especially its 24/7 live filming and unplanned iconic moments that captivated viewers.
Mel reflects on moments like Sara-Marie Fedele’s famous bum dance, saying,
“It just takes somebody being organic. At the time, you didn’t know it would become a part of Aussie culture, like the saying: ‘Game on, moles.’ That authenticity is what we latch onto.”
Mel also highlights the romances that blossomed within the house,
“I loved the love stories.”
