RSL Victoria encourages everyone to purchase a red poppy ahead of Remembrance Day on Monday, 11 November 2024. This date marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I in 1918. Each year, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions pause to remember.
Services will be held at 11am in the communities of Ararat, Willaura, and Lake Bolac to honor this solemn day.
The red poppy is known as the “Flower of Remembrance” because it was one of the first flowers to bloom in the battlefields of northern France and Belgium following the war’s end. Australia adopted this emblem in 1921 as a way to honor those who died and support those who survived.
