Korean heartthrob Ji Chang-wook stars once again in the upcoming Disney+ original thriller, "The Manipulated." This series is a rare film-to-series adaptation for Disney+ Korea, reuniting director Park Shin-woo and Ji to reimagine Park’s 2017 action hit "Fabricated City."
The story centers on Tae-joong (Ji Chang-wook), an ordinary man whose life is shattered after being falsely accused of a violent crime. He soon discovers the entire situation was masterminded by Yo-han (Do Kyung-soo), sparking Tae-joong’s quest for revenge in a tense cat-and-mouse game.
At a press conference in Seoul, director Park Shin-woo shared the reasons behind casting Ji Chang-wook again.
“When the idea of turning it into a drama first came up, Ji showed his willingness to join even before the script was written. I know he showed great affection for the project by waiting patiently for a long time."Park added,
“To me, it was a natural choice. Although it’s not a direct remake of the film, he did such an outstanding job that I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role.”
Park also highlighted that the series format offers a storytelling pace and depth that the big screen couldn't fully provide, allowing a fresh interpretation of the original story.
