Today's Craig Melvin Makes Surprising Confession During 'Jenna & Friends' Cohosting Debut

Several "Today" personalities started their cohosting roles on the show Jenna & Friends this week. Craig Melvin's debut alongside Jenna Bush Hager had a humorous beginning.

Cohosting Debut on November 3

Melvin joined Bush Hager at the fourth hour of the Today desk for the first time on Monday, November 3. Upon arrival, he commented, “This is a nice set,” and then admitted,

“You know, I’ve never seen the show.”
This surprised Bush Hager, who responded,
“That is so rude.”

Explanation for Not Watching

Melvin explained his lack of viewership was due to his schedule:

“Well, because usually, we’re just getting off,”
referring to the third hour of Today airing before Jenna & Friends.
“I’m usually in transit, but this is nice. … I know, I could probably watch some of it.”

Praise for Jenna Bush Hager

At the beginning of the show, Melvin praised Bush Hager's work on Jenna & Friends since she took over with various celebrity guests after Hoda Kotb left Today in January. He said,

“What you have managed to do over the last few months on this show, from just a purely broadcasting perspective, as the kids would say, real recognize[s] real.”
He added,
“To be able to sit next to someone different every day or two and do this, that’s a feat.”

Author’s summary: Craig Melvin humorously admitted never watching Jenna & Friends before his debut, praising Jenna Bush Hager's ability to adapt to varying cohosts with ease.
