Learner Tien and Lorenzo Sonego Advance in Metz

American rising star Learner Tien extended his strong season at the Moselle Open by defeating French wild card Ugo Blanchet 6-3, 6-3 to move into the second round. The 19-year-old, who will compete next month in the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF, has accumulated 28 tour-level wins this year, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

Last month, Tien reached the final in Beijing and made it to the fourth round at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. He will now face lucky loser Moez Echargui in the next round.

Former Metz champion Lorenzo Sonego also progressed after a three-set victory over British qualifier Jan Choinski, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Sonego fired 11 aces during their first Lexus ATP Head2Head match and is set to meet fourth seed Flavio Cobolli in round two. This year, Sonego's best performance was reaching the Australian Open quarter-finals.

French qualifier Clement Tabur earned his first tour-level win by beating Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-3, 6-2. Currently seeded seventh, he sits at No. 27 in the PIF ATP Rankings.

Last week in Paris, Norrie upset Carlos Alcaraz and will play Arthur Cazaux in Metz's second round.

Matteo Berrettini secured a 6-2, 6-4 win over Quentin Halys and will face either Frenchman Corentin Moutet or Aleksandar Vukic next.
