‘The Manipulated’ ushers in a bold new action role for Ji Chang-wook

Actor Ji Chang-wook returns to the screen in the intense new Disney+ action thriller The Manipulated. In this gripping series, he portrays a man whose peaceful life collapses after being falsely accused of a serious crime.

The show, set to premiere on Wednesday, fuses high-stakes suspense with emotional depth, distinguishing itself from its cinematic inspiration Fabricated City. A press conference introducing the project was held Monday at the Conrad Seoul, featuring director Park Shin-woo and cast members Ji Chang-wook, Doh Kyung-soo, Kim Jong-soo, Jo Yoon-soo, and Lee Kwang-soo.

A dark quest for justice

Directed by Park Shin-woo—renowned for White Night, The Killing Vote, and Trap—and written by Oh Sang-ho, known for The Roundup: Punishment and Taxi Driver, the series follows Tae-jung (played by Ji), an ordinary delivery worker with dreams of opening a cozy garden café while caring for his younger sister.

His ordinary life unravels when police suddenly arrest him based on fabricated evidence. Upon discovering that the case was engineered by a mysterious man named Johan (portrayed by Doh Kyung-soo), Tae-jung embarks on a relentless journey of revenge.

“The Manipulated offers both action and emotional impact, exploring how injustice transforms a good man into something darker.”
