Local governments in Florida are working to mitigate the effects of climate disaster, but their efforts are being hindered by state leaders.

In Manatee County, commissioners were threatened with removal from office for considering measures to enhance disaster resilience. The measures, which were widely supported, aimed to improve the county's comprehensive plan.

The county, located on Florida's Gulf Coast, is prone to flooding and other climate-related disasters. Despite this, state leaders are limiting the ability of local governments to take action.
