The Brantford Bulldogs are making waves early this season. While most of Ontario's attention was on baseball around Halloween, the OHL team that relocated from Hamilton after the 2022-23 season was busy shaking up the hockey world.
Before November even began, the Bulldogs started the trade deadline season aggressively, acting more than two months ahead of time. On October 30, they made a significant move by acquiring two experienced defensemen from the Oshawa Generals: Ben Danford, a 2024 first-round pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Zackary Sandhu, a reliable overage player.
These key additions enhance a Bulldogs defense already strengthened by notable players such as Owen Protz, a former Wolves standout and Montreal Canadiens prospect, Adam Jiricek, a first-round pick by the St. Louis Blues, and Edison Engle, selected by the Winnipeg Jets.
"The Brantford Bulldogs aren’t messing around. They were kickstarting the trade deadline season, more than two months before the actual trade deadline."
This proactive approach by Brantford could push other OHL teams to start evaluating the market earlier than usual.
