Sir Kazuo Ishiguro shared that King Charles emphasized the importance of persevering in the fight against the challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI). The King expressed concern over AI's threat to the creative industries during an event honoring one of Britain’s most celebrated authors.
King Charles' remarks come amid worries that major tech companies are exploiting the work of content creators to develop AI technologies without proper credit or compensation. Many creatives have raised alarms about US firms using vast amounts of online text, images, and music to train AI models without respecting original copyrights.
The Daily Mail supports fair compensation for authors, publishers, and musicians whose work is used to train AI, advocating for greater respect of intellectual property rights.
"This is the third time he's presented me with something and he alluded to the fact that we keep doing this. He asked me about my writing and he did actually raise the question about AI and the threat to the creative people of AI. He said he thought it was quite important to keep battling on that front."
Sir Kazuo Ishiguro, who was made a companion of honour by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, revealed that his books have been "raided" to train AI models without authorization.
The Japanese-born British author received the honour in a ceremony on Monday, highlighting the ongoing dialogue about AI's impact on creativity and intellectual property.
King Charles' support underscores the vital need to protect creative professionals from the unchecked use of their work in AI development.
