Death By Lightning filming locations as it lands on Netflix
The Netflix limited series Death By Lightning comes from executive producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, the creators of Game of Thrones. The four-part historical drama explores the events that led to the assassination of the 20th President of the United States, James A. Garfield.
Adapted from Candice Millard’s book Destiny of the Republic, the series was released in full on Thursday, November 6. The story follows Garfield, portrayed by Michael Shannon, who unexpectedly became President in 1881 after supporting John Sherman’s (played by Alistair Petrie) campaign. Alongside his political ascent, the series also introduces Charles Guiteau, his future assassin, portrayed by Matthew Macfadyen, whose admiration for Garfield turns fatal.

While the show recounts a pivotal moment in American history, it was not filmed in the United States. Instead, production took place in Budapest, Hungary, beginning on July 1, 2024, and concluding in October the same year.
