As a Tufts student, I constantly pay attention to the cannon, a central part of student life representing student voice, interests, and activism.
The cannon allows students to express themselves, whether it's advertising events like the Cheese Ball or writing political messages, making their voices heard by the broader community.
Recently, I noticed the cannon had been painted a blank sheet of blue by the Tufts administration, which isn't the first time they've painted over student speech.
Previously, Tufts facilities painted over pro-Palestinian messages after a political exchange between Tufts Republicans and anonymous students, as I wrote about last semester.
The Tufts cannon is a platform for student expression and should be left alone by the administration.
Author's summary: Tufts admin should respect student voice.
