Sudbury Police aggressive crackdown on drug use starts in November

Crackdown on Drug Use in Sudbury

Greater Sudbury Police Service Chief Sara Cunningham announced a crackdown on open drug use in the downtown core, starting in November.

“We will no longer tolerate open drug use,”

During the police board meeting, Cunningham stated that police will be more visible and ready to arrest people for open drug use, while an undercover effort will target drug dealers.

Cunningham emphasized that the issue extends beyond police jurisdiction, saying

“It’s a health crisis we’re not going to enforce our way out of,”
adding that police must still play a role, and in some cases, enforcement may be the best option.
