Oncore by Clare Smyth to Close This Summer

Oncore, located on level 26 of Crown Sydney, is the acclaimed British chef Clare Smyth’s only restaurant outside the UK. It is renowned for its signature seven-course tasting menu, featuring a standout potato dish.

Since its opening in 2021, Oncore has become a popular destination for special occasions, celebrated for its artful and memorable dishes, including the silky potato with roe. However, the lease is ending, and the restaurant will close soon.

“Opening Oncore in Sydney has been an incredible journey,” Smyth said. “I’m deeply proud of what we’ve achieved and grateful to the team whose talent and dedication brought our vision to life. It’s been a privilege to share our food with Australian diners and be part of Crown Sydney’s world-class offering.”

This was Smyth’s first venture outside the UK, serving as an “encore” to Core, her three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Notting Hill. She explained the close connection between the UK and Australia made Sydney feel like a second home.

“Whilst geographically Australia is across the world from the UK, the relationship between the two is so close, that it also feels like home to me,” Smyth told Broadsheet. “As I normally travel to Australia once or twice a year for events and to visit friends, it was the ideal location to open my second restaurant and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity when it came my way.”

Author’s summary: Clare Smyth’s Sydney restaurant Oncore, famed for its exquisite tasting menu, will close this summer after a successful run since 2021, marking the end of a celebrated international chapter.
