Environment Canada announced Saturday that weather warnings for North Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii have expanded to include heavy rainfall alerts across the North Coast. The agency cautioned that strong southeasterly winds of 70 to 90 km/h, with gusts up to 110 km/h, are expected over exposed coastal areas.
“An intensifying frontal system will impact the B.C. coast today and overnight into Sunday morning,” states Environment Canada.
Winds began sweeping through the affected regions early Saturday and are forecast to gradually subside by Sunday. However, authorities warn of potential power outages, transport delays, and other service disruptions caused by the storm.
DriveBC has also urged motorists on the North Coast to take additional precautions on the roads over the next few days.
“Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Stay away from fallen power lines,” states Environment Canada.
Local utility providers are preparing for possible outages, while residents are advised to secure outdoor items and remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
