Bruins’ Nikita Zadorov lives up to his own rules, fights Maple Leafs’ forward

Bruins’ Nikita Zadorov Upholds His Own Rules in Fight Against Maple Leafs

Nikita Zadorov delivered a powerful hit on Scott Laughton that ignited a fight in Toronto. The Bruins defenseman stayed true to the unwritten code he advocated after an incident involving Buffalo’s Jordan Greenway.

Zadorov had taken issue with Greenway declining to fight him following a heavy hit that injured Elias Lindholm. Later, Zadorov’s second-period check sent Maple Leafs veteran Scott Laughton flying and forced him out of the game.

When Bobby McMann confronted him shortly after, Zadorov accepted the challenge. The fight featured wrestling and tugging, with McMann, who is shorter and has less reach, landing a few glancing punches to the back of Zadorov’s helmet.

Zadorov responded with some short uppercuts. Neither fighter suffered serious damage before they were both sent to the penalty box for five minutes.

"Nikita Zadorov lived up to the unwritten rules he championed against Buffalo."
"McMann, who gives away five inches of height and about as much reach to Zadorov, landed a few glancing right hands to the back of Zadorov’s helmet."

Author’s summary: Nikita Zadorov’s commitment to his personal code of conduct sparked a fierce but brief fight that ended with both players unscathed and penalized equally.
