Mike Smith, best known for his role as Bubbles in the cult-favorite comedy series “Trailer Park Boys,” has been charged with sexual assault, according to a report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Court documents filed in Nova Scotia provincial court indicate that Smith was formally charged on October 2 in connection with an alleged assault that took place in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, in December. Smith’s representative and attorney have not yet responded to requests for comment from Variety.
“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith,”
said the production company Trailer Park Boys Inc. in a statement to CBC, confirming that Smith has stepped aside from his role as managing director.
“We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”
Smith is one of the three core cast members behind “Trailer Park Boys,” alongside John Paul Tremblay and Robb Wells. The mockumentary series, which debuted in 2001 on Canada’s Showcase network, gained international fame after being picked up by Netflix in 2014. Over the years, the show has produced 116 episodes along with several feature films and spin-offs.
