The Lakers' reserve big man, Maxi Kleber, returned to action in Saturday’s 122-102 loss to the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena. Kleber missed the first nine games due to an abdominal muscle strain before being cleared to play just a few hours before tipoff.
Kleber explained the injury happened during a preseason practice while driving to the basket.
“Very unfortunate, unlucky. But we try to best to maintain conditioning and everything else. Try to come back as fast as possible.”
He was sidelined most of the preseason with a minor quadriceps issue sustained at training camp’s first practice in September.
Kleber entered the game in the third quarter, substituting with 5:59 remaining as Coach JJ Redick rested main rotation players while trailing 90-65. Over 14 minutes, Kleber contributed:
“I’m gonna be ready. Just be prepared and be back out with the guys, get back in rhythm and routine.”
The 33-year-old aims to regain full form as the season progresses.
Author’s summary: Maxi Kleber returned from injury to contribute defensively and on offense in his season debut, showing readiness to rejoin the Lakers’ rotation after a challenging start.
