Mike Smith, known for his role in the comedy series Trailer Park Boys, has been charged with sexual assault, according to court documents.
Smith was charged on October 2 in connection with an alleged assault that took place in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on December 30, 2017. The information was reported by Variety, citing documents filed in Nova Scotia provincial court and statements from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
"We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith," a statement from Trailer Park Boys Inc. read. It confirmed Smith has "stepped away" from his position as managing director.
"We recognise how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved," the statement added. "Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case."
Trailer Park Boys is a mockumentary comedy series that debuted in 2001 on the Canadian TV network Showcase and was later picked up by Netflix in 2014. The show features Mike Smith alongside John Paul Tremblay and Robb Wells. It has aired 116 episodes and produced several films and spin-offs.
