Prisoners Charged with Murder of Kyle Bevan Appear in Court

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 56, and David Taylor, 63, have each been charged with the murder of Kyle Bevan, 33, at HMP Wakefield.

Details of the Court Appearance

On November 7, the three prisoners appeared separately before Leeds Magistrates' Court via video link from Havertop Police Station. They face charges related to the murder of Bevan, who was killed on November 5 at HMP Wakefield.

All three wore grey prison-issued sweatpants and tops, and were accompanied by police officers during their brief hearings, each lasting about one minute.

Background on the Incident

Officers responded to the prison at around 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday after reports of an inmate found dead in his cell. The Prison Service identified the deceased as Kyle Bevan.

Kyle Bevan was serving a life sentence for the brutal murder of his partner's two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, in 2020.

Judicial Proceedings

District Judge Charlotte Holland transferred all three cases to Leeds Crown Court, scheduling the next hearing for November 10 as a plea and trial preparation hearing. She stated:

"You are charged with one allegation of murder. That is so serious I therefore have to send you to Leeds Crown Court. The next hearing will be a plea and trial preparation hearing. I am not able to consider bail and so you will be remanded into custody."

All defendants were remanded in custody pending the upcoming hearing.
